7月5日 Of People Who Waste Their Time......in the Gym
I seriously don't know if I should feel pity for them or simply just be amused by them. Let me elaborate a little on what I've observed during my hourly training sessions at Fitness First.
There's this group of 3 skinny Indian guys (nothing about being racist here, they just happen to be Indian mind you). They were all obviously new to the gym since they were all sporting their spanking new Fitness First T. So they were like yada yada yada, chatter chatter, yada yada.. then proceed to bicep curl a 20 pound barbell (with improper technique at that) and then resume their chatter for about another 10 minutes until one of them decides 'hey macha, come lah lets go upstairs and grab a drink!', and up they go. I was done for that day, went up to the lockers, showered, changed, and as I was leaving, I saw them still loafing around the free weights area mindlessly chatting away. C'mon.. the nearest mamak is just around the corner, isn't that a better place to talk all the cock you want to your hearts content? If these guys think they wanna get big and hunky at this rate they can dream on.
Next comes this dude probably in his late 30s to early 40s with a belly almost the size of a swiss ball. I applaud his effort to make time to go to the gym and from my obvious guess, his goal was to lose that generously sized 1 economy pack of his. However, he tortures himself doing like a gazillion reps of crunches, hoping to 'crunch' away that belly. Poor guy doesn't realise that spot reduction is a myth and that he should be spending his time weight training and doing lots of cardio instead if he wants to lose that spare tyre. Its a pity how some people work out thinking what they're doing will affect their bodies in a good way or in a way that they would prefer. Anyway, I later saw this guy swinging around 5 pound dumbbells in each hand doing what I reckon something that looks like the cha cha. Oh well...
Now I don't claim myself to be a gym/fitness pro.. I've made a lot of mistakes when I first started out too, but I've learnt from them and constantly try to improve... because I believe if you want to achieve something, you either strive do it right, or don't do it at all... |
